Oh Lindsay!

It was going to happen but where will it lead now.

A recent Pop Eater poll suggest that “fans” are tired of Lohan shenanigans and want to see her jailed. Some 84% expressed their frustration at her behavior and suggesting that the Lohan brand is suffering from her drug addiction problems. Well, there dreams have come true with Judge Fox sending her straight to jail with no bail. The star had run something of a campaign online during the week tweeting about visiting AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and accepting that she has a disease, all aimed at mitigating her plea and perhaps keeping her out of jail.

Where now for Lohan whose celebrity star is kept bright by all this constant paparazzi news but whose film bankability may well suffer. Is she insurable, we wonder.

Paris Hilton’s Swansong?

Lindsay Lohan’s career is nose-diving, no pun intended on nose in the light of her well-documented enjoyment of the white stuff. Erstwhile friend Paris Hilton is not far behind as Japan has banned her from entering the country following a drug violation in Las Vegas to follow her earlier bust in Cape Town during the world cup. What’s a celebrity to do with her won reputation in these cases.

Paris Hilton is an interesting species of celebrity. Unlike Lohan she was not a child prodigy actor. She has always been a puzzling character without discernable talent or taste. She talks somewhat like a retard and seems to swan around the world without reason. Yet she is famous and certainly adored by “fans” though the number of them has never been counted.

Of course Paris Hilton is primarily a celebrity for being a celebrity. She is a mirror reflecting a mirror and so any tittle-tattle is good for their career. The question reputation managers will be asking is whether they have reached the point where they think that all PR is good PR and are “numbed” to any longer term consequences. Paris Hilton described her arrest in Las Vegas as being “beyond her control” as though her lifestyle choices are no longer determined by herself.

Apart from the personal inconveniences they face: not getting health insurance, not being able to enter countries, they face professional issues such being uninsurable for projects such as film productions. In branding terms they face the most worrying hit. They are increasingly disassociated from quality product. As their fans mature they will likely grow increasingly disgusted by their criminal behaviour.

Arrested Lindsay Lohan tried to Tweet her way out of twouble

Well here’s a turn-up for the books…

Lindsay Lohan, out on probation after being found guilty of substance abuse, has had an arrest warrant issued in her name after failing her latest drugs tests. She now faces strict punishment by Judge Elden Fox for breach of the terms of her probation after he showed leniency in allowing the star some freedom to go about her business, including a host of current screen work.

What’s being talked about most at the moment though is not the fact that she failed another drugs test (like, who couldn’t see that one coming?), but infact the activity on her Twitter page.

Ms Lohan Tweeted:

“Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result.”

“Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future.”

The nature of her recent posts has got people questioning whether it’s actually her that’s posting. Her friends have been making comments like “this doesn’t sound like Lindsay”. And indeed, this is a sentiment that seems to be echoed by many people commenting on these Tweets.

It all begs the question… in a time whereby her public image has been shot to high heavens, was it Lindsay making those posts? They were clearly designed to show humility and carry favour with the judge, so was it Ms Lohan that made that call? Did she get advice from a lawyer? Did this Hollywood celebrity make use of a Reputation Management company to try and handle damage control? Was it for the sake of her latest film Machete?

Whatever the hope was for these posts, they seem to have missed the mark. Lindsay now faces jail time and for her stumbles on her path to recovery she has lost the respect of a lot of those keen to see her repent and reach sobriety.

At least we didn’t lose Paris Hilton too…

  • Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving on a suspended license.

Lindsay Lohan E-trade saga

Lindsay Lohan is yet again in news. The 23-year-old actress has filed a lawsuit against E-Trade for $100 million over a Super Bowl ad featuring a “milkaholic” baby named Lindsay. The controversial TV ad features a baby boy apologizing to his girlfriend for not calling her because he was busy trading stocks on E-Trade. Lohan alleged E-trade for breaching of civil rights and use of her name, ‘Lindsay’ and characterization without payment or permission.

This is nothing new for the glam doll who has the habit of being in news for all the wrong reasons; starting from spending a day in jail, her relationship with Samantha Ronson, being shooed away by enraged people in the Paris Fashion Week, Lindsay has it all in her to invite controversy.

If we look back, Tracy Palmer, the Director of Consumer Advertising Sprint, made no fuss when her name was used for the girls character in the sprint ad. So doubts are afloat if this whole controversy by Lindsay is a publicity stunt. The allegations levied by her lawyer also seems inappropriate to stand up in the court.

“Many celebrities are known by one name, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit,” Lohan’s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, said in a statement to the New York Post . “They’re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn’t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan.”

The whole drama has done a world of good for E-trade, with thousands of people searching for the controversial commercial online. Wonder why LiLo seems so offended, or is it a mere frustration of hers.  She is in real need of a quality PR and some strategic celebrity reputation management to be in place to regain her lost image as a celebrity rather than as a troubled star.

We, at  Reputation Management For.com, feel that Lindsay has to retain the confidence of the public and should work towards getting back her stardom.  Who will want to sponsor a celebrity who may turn round and sue them later, had she not mentioned anything for the best part the ad would have gone unnoticed, now even we are writing about it now!
