Social Media Marketing – How To Use Twitter

Twitter is one of those “new things” that a lot of people keep meaning to get around to, without actually ever doing it. It’s a permanent fixture of the proverbial ‘to-do e-list’. Surely it’s just a bunch of people talking about their day, hoping that other people will care that they’re “making toast” and whole lot of other inane nonsense, right?

For the most part, sure. It’s said that “Twitter is for people who can’t shut up, even when they’re by themselves” and yes, we know a few people like that! There is an awful lot of nonsense to sift through before you come across anything half-decent. But then that’s no different from literature – for every “A Brief History of Time” or “Great Expectations” there’s a thousand Dan Brown-esque books that will genuinely lower the collective IQ of human kind.

Television, radio, newspapers and the internet. Which is the odd one out? The internet, for as Monday proved – it’s the one thing that can’t be controlled by a court-issued super-injunction. SyFy Kills Stargate Universe (SGU) And Reputation

[Updated 13/06/2011] I don’t envy the work of a TV Network President. I envy the salary, sure – but trying to ensure that television continues to make money at the cost of quality, principles and a core fanbase can’t be easy. That’s probably not the way the job should work, but just try telling that to Dave Howe, President of NBC Universal’s ‘SyFy’ television network. Hordes of fans are turning their backs on the cable channel, and it’s primarily down to the decision to cancel fans’ favourite: Stargate Universe.

Stephen Fry Pledges Prison Over Twitter Joke

Twitter and other social networking sites have the potential to be a great source of information and entertainment, if you have the patience to filter through all the “I am eating toast”-like posts. Of course, they also have the potential to cause a whole world of grief if handled incorrectly. For celebrities, a bit of misdirected anger will usually result in some negative media coverage. For former trainee accountant Paul Chambers, his mis-Tweet resulted in legal action and the loss of his job. As a result, a whole host of famous faces have been up in arms, including (and especially) Stephen Fry.
