Google Places with Reputation Management to local business owners
Google’s local business listings now called Google Places has come up with a chance for local businesses to respond to customer reviews! This is great news for businesses and for reputation management, business owners can now respond directly to reviews both negative and positive.
Local businesses can now deal with the reviews in a positive way and not to mention get a chance to keep in touch with customers and their feedback. Customers on the other hand get to hear from the people behind the scene directly. Google Places has verified business owners and this way you can get verified and respond to customers.
This is, if you look at it Google’s endorsement of reputation management and here at Reputation Management For.com we’d advice you to get into Google Places get listed and verified, and then respond to reviews when they show up. Google Places even illustrates how to respond to reviews with examples!
As for the annoying reviewer who is just there to make some noise, the best thing a business owner can do is filter them out and look into the ‘real’ customer concerns.
Commonwealth Games and India Reputation
The Commonwealth Games which was touted to be India’s show of new power and splendour is soon becoming another show of the deep corruption that the country is pickled in. From the bureaucracy that needs to be paid in the order of their status to nepotism, India is unable to come out of these ‘tags’ while hosting international sporting events.
To the nouveau Indian wanting to see development and the doing away of corruption and introduction of transparency, the fact that eight RTI (Right To Information) activists were killed in seven months shows there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
While a large number of people question why the country made the bid to host the CWG in the first place, others hoped the capital city will be spruced up to international standards. Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International airport is probably the only saving grace in the corruption hit games now.
From exorbitant prices from treadmills to toilet paper, Suresh Kalmadi and honchos seem to have milked crores of rupees at every possible point. The money trails all lead to more sleaze and nepotism.
For sports-lovers the anguish is in how all this money could have actually given better protein rich food to the Rugby team or better facilities to sportsmen and women in the country.
For now The Commonwealth Games is fast turning into India’s shame and the 8% growth the country is showing seems to be all hollow. Sports in the country is really only about cricket and the highly successful IPL too had its share of sleaze.
Most people would tend to agree with former sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, when he shocked people a few weeks ago with this statement…
“I am very happy with the rains, firstly because it will ensure a good agriculture for the country and secondly because it will ensure that the Commonwealth Games are spoilt”
A day ago Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia came out with a more scathing remark…
“It’s not a good idea to host the Games. What are the parameters for hosting a good Games? Fancy roads, which we have (in Delhi). Fancy airport, which we have. But what we don’t have is proper infrastructure. The government is not aware of the real picture of our infrastructure”
India national reputation continues to be of corruption, sleaze and lack of transparency, but of late, a lot of it is being exposed through a watchful media and that is a huge change for the country.
Mel Gibson keeping quiet the Tiger way
Mel Gibson by choosing to follow the footsteps of the disgraced golfer, Tiger Woods has only made his reputation slump from bad to worse. Just like Tiger chose to keep quiet Mel Gibson too, remained out of the media eyes as soon as the accusations of domestic abuse and the rant tapes got viral on the web. Even when this celebrated actor was dumped by his agents at William Morris he chose to keep silent and to remain in the oblivion, which was a badly executed reputation management plan from his side.
Even When Gibson’s attorneys fiercely defended their boss by firing salvos against his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva’s allegations, Gibson never came out into the open. So, did Gibson also made a costly mistake by not addressing his serious reputation issues, which assumed massive proportions with every passing day. But, Perhaps his silence has made the public believe that the tapes were probably real, which made his situation worse.
Gibson might have played it safe as he is infamous for his vitriolic tongue and by keeping his mouth shut he might have thought to scramble home safely. Mel has been through such issues earlier also and with each incident it is becoming all the more difficult for him to salvage his reputation. Silence might be golden in real world but not in the web where making noise is the best way to prove your point, pull the crowd and to safeguard your online reputation.
Reviews, Consumer Reviews, Product Reviews… Hows Yours?
Reviews are a company’s best friend or worst enemy. It can dramatically increase your sales or totally devastate them overnight. Nowhere is better than the Internet to see the results or how affective they can be.
Hotels, where would you research to find out if a hotel is any good? Tripadvisor? Electronic goods where would you check? Which.com, Iphone apps, before you download them or even look at them in details do you look at the review rating first?
Reviews can kill a movie, a sports player’s career, a company’s product and yet still people tend to come to a company like ours when negative reviews and comments have already hit the top of the search engines. Consumers don’t really care what you have to say as a business, they are more interested in what other users or previous customers have to say as they believe them to be more honest.
Recently I have been involved in a medical marketing site, it astonishes me how ignorant manufacturers and resellers are about the internet and how much they still don’t get. When we conducted a survey at a conference we asked buyers how many primarily researched on-line before they came to the conference. 95% of people put their hand up, 95% not 10% not 25% but 95% but still many businesses think that attracting negative comments online about them or their products don’t effect them?
Companies are still hawking their products with meaningless marketing speak, consumers and customers are turning to other customers for their opinions before making purchase decisions. Capturing customer opinion and reviews is now a critical task for companies as they compete in the market. Capturing them and publishing them must play a central role in the marketing plan for any product or service that a company offers.
