Bad Press
| Reputation Management - Business Reputation |
Bad press used to be a word for offline newspapers and TV reports, but now with many of TV channels and Newspapers having websites, the offline world is hitting the online world in a big way.
Bad press in a newspaper eventually goes away especially if the story does not attract much attention. However the opposite can be said for online bad press, if your company name is something unusual like Taamtons Shoe, then it is more likely not going to benefit from having a common name like John Smith Shoe. Having an unusual name will mean the search engines are more likely to show pages both positive or negative about Taamtons Shoe, where John Smith Shoe is going to show many more results because how common the name is.
Another a great example is of the Directors
- Mark Scott
- Sholto Ramsay
If you search Mark Scott then their 53,000,000 results and nothing about Mark on the first page, however if you search Sholto Ramsay then there is only 11,000 results. The first page is pretty much has everything to do with Sholto!!!
So creating a unique business name can bring pro's and con's:
Pro
- Not much in the way of competition
- Can get correct usernames on social site
- Can get domains and urls on 3rd party websites
Con
- Any negative content could easily reach the top
- Continues content will need to be published
- Easy for people to get negative pages about your company up the search results if you are not proactive.
Again shorten names can also cause issues for companies here are some examples:
- KFC
- BA
- BT
- IBM
- HBOS
- RBS
- AA
- RAC
- AOL
- AT&T
- TNT
